Grow nutrient dense, healing foods right in your garden.
Yes, your backyard garden vegetables can be healing foods! Hippocrates said:
"Let food be your medicine
and medicine be your food." What did he know that we might need to learn?
The human body was created to be healthy. When given a nutritious diet, the immune system will be strong and the body can avoid most diseases. Then
why do we see so much disease
these days?
What Causes Disease?
- A poor diet
- A sedate lifestyle
- Environmental toxins
- Emotional burdens like fear, stress, and anger
The Path to Vibrant Health
We all know what to do about the sedate lifestyle. Get some exercise! Concerning environmental toxins, juicing vegetables is a way to help
detox
from these, plus we can reduce these by avoiding chlorinated water, junk food, and
GMO foods
(most corn, soy, and canola products). Of course, one of the greatest sources of environmental toxins comes from processed foods, with all their ARTIFICIAL colors, flavors and preservatives. Have you ever heard, "You are what you eat?"
Which Foods are Healing Foods?
Some foods are so much better for us than others. We have a choice. Why not choose foods that are packed with nutrients, instead of empty calories? Here are some suggestions:
- Brown rice (much more nutritious than white rice)
- Brown bread,
preferably from freshly milled wheat
- Sweet potatoes (loaded with nutrients!) as opposed to white potatoes.
- Raw sugar (which still has 43 nutrients, white sugar has only 3)
-
Raw dairy products
(alive with enzymes, not damaged by pasteurization and homogenization)
- Plenty of
organic
raw fruits and vegetables. Beware of non-organic
fruits and vegetables, as many of these have been
irradiated.
This is done to increase shelf life, but it kills all the beneficial bacteria and enzymes.
- Vegetable and fruit juices that you
juice daily
are healing foods.
- Good sources of fat and protein, including raw nuts and seeds, free range poultry and their eggs, fish caught in the wild, grass fed beef and lamb, olive, coconut and palm oils, unpastuerized dairy products.
-
Seaweeds,
sprouts, grasses and herbs.
Having said all this, let's get back to the best source of
healthy foods to eat,
the nutritious foods grown in your garden.
